In this paper, we introduce an explicit formula for the solutions and discuss the global behavior of solutions of the difference equation $$x_{n+1}=\frac{{ax}_{n-3}}{b-{cx}_{n-1}{x}_{n-3}},\mathrm{\hspace{0.17em} }\mathrm{\hspace{0.17em} }\mathrm{\hspace{0.17em} }n=0,1,\dots$$

where a, b, c are positive real numbers and the initial conditions x₋₃, x₋₂, x₋₁, x₀ are real numbers.
